MYOFASCIAL RELEASE

MYOFASCIAL RELEASE (MFR) consists of gentle application of sustained pressure into the fascial restrictions. Other forms of applications may also include a three planar release as used in INTEGRATIVE MANUAL THERAPY (IMT) which is very gentle and effective.

WHAT IS FASCIA?
FASCIA is a tough connective tissue which spreads throughout the body in a three-dimensional web from head to foot without interruption. Trauma, posture or inflammation can create a binding down of fascia resulting in EXCESSIVE PRESSURE on nerves, muscles, blood vessels, osseous structures and/or organs. Since many of the standard tests such as x-rays, myelograms, CT scans, EMG do not show the fascial restrictions, it is thought that an extremely high percentage of people suffering with pain and/or lack of motion may be having fascial problems, but most remain undiagnosed.

WHAT IS MFR GOOD FOR?
1) Back pain
2) Neck pain
3) Chronic Pain/Fibromyalgia
4) Headaches
5) Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
6) Geriatrics/Seniors
7) Spasm/Spasticity
8) Scoliosis
9) Pediatrics
10) Sports Injuries
11) TMJ
12) Stroke & other neurologic dysfunctions

RESULTS:
1) Pain-relief
2) Improvement in flexibility & range of motion (ROM)
3) Improvement in mobility
4) Ability to go back to exercise
5) Recovery from dysfunction

There are several schools of thought offering MYOFASCIAL RELEASE CLASSES including Integrative Manual Therapy, John F. Barnes, etc. The sooner you get help after an injury, the faster you heal. Ideally, if you could see a physical therapist specializing in MFR on the first day of your injury, the better your chance of full recovery preventing further inflammation and pain. Since California is a DIRECT ACCESS STATE for physical therapy, you may be able to see your PT directly for health and wellness reasons.
